Exams and Assignments

There is at least one formal evaluation for each of the courses. Evaluations may be in the form of written exams, oral exams, practical demonstration and/or take home assignments, which must be returned no later than two weeks following the course date. Late exams will be subject to a late penalty of $25 after the due date. The pass mark for all exams and assignments is 70%. In the event that an exam does not meet the necessary requirements, one rewrite is allowed ($40 fee need to be paid). If after the rewrite the exam is still not satisfactory, the course will have to be taken again (for an extra charge of $150). All exams are retained by the Sport performance Institute as proof of certification.

Exam Grades will be delivered after 3 weeks from the exam date provided that all courses’ fees are settled. Successful attendees may refer back to the office to have access to their exam papers in order to check their mistakes and get the guidance of the instructor when needed to improve their standards accordingly.

Adult CPR/AED Certification

No Certification can be delivered unless a valid “Adult CPR/AED” (with hands on practical skills components) Certification is completed. Those who did not complete their CPR/AED can only receive a certificate of attendance with ACSM approved CECs and/or REPs UAE CPDs.

Course Attendance

SPI courses attendance is mandatory. If it is not possible to participate in the full course do not register for that course date.

Course Fees and Refunds

Course fees include all course materials. Gym rates, package rates and/or facilitation in payment apply in some occasions. Course fees must be paid at least prior to the start of the course. Refunds are available up to 3 hours of course start up, and are subject to a $50 administration fee. Refunds will not be granted after this time but registration can be transferred to another course date.

Certification Renewal

Like any professional certification, the SPI certifications require a certain minimum standard of maintenance in order to ensure that SPI certified instructors are updated with the latest information within fitness. For this reason, the SPI requires ongoing education in order to renew and maintain your 3 years certification.

Continuing education plays a vital role in the quality of any profession. Fitness is no different. Keeping abreast of the latest developments in sports and fitness is one of the responsibilities of fitness professionals.
To renew SPI certification(s) you have 3 years to accumulate 45 Continuing Education Credits (CECs) and must pay the required recertification fee of $75 for the first certificate and a $10 fee for every additional certificate. You need as well to maintain your CPR/AED certification. This can be achieved by attending 2 fitness or sports workshops, seminars, or 1 certification course or conference in the calendar year. SPI maintains the right to recall or nullify the certificate document in the event certificate holders have violated program requirements or policies.

One on One Education

If upon completing the course you feel that extra personal explanation is needed, we can provide you with one on one education service for a fee of 50$ per hour, or 125$ per 3 hours session. For further details, please contact the office.

What is ACSM?

The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), founded in 1954, was the first organization to certify health fitness professionals. It is the world’s largest sports medicine and exercise science organization with more than 45,000 national, regional, and international members and certified health fitness professionals in more than 90 countries.

ACSM establishes the exercise guidelines that all other certifications use for training and certification, and therefore, continues to set the standards in the fitness industry.

An ACSM Approved Provider is an organization which has applied and been approved to offer ACSM continuing education credits for their educational offerings. The ACSM Professional Education Committee certifies that "Sport Performance Institute" meets the criteria for official ACSM Approved Provider status. Providership # 763591.

SPI will provide to attendees ACSM Approved Continuing Education Credits (CECs) so that they may document the number of CECs earned from each course or Workshop. Proof of continuing education is required to renew any International Fitness Certification.

What is REPs or ICREPs?

ICREPs is the International Confederation for Registers of Exercise Professionals, it is the global body for REPs registers around the world. There is now a REPS register and member of ICREPs in UK, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, UAE, Ireland, Canada and United States.

REPs has set Occupational Standards (i.e. working standards) that describe the skills, knowledge and competence needed to work as an instructor in the fitness industry.
As such, REPs is a guarantee that instructors are competent and qualified, and have demonstrated that they can work to these standards, normally by gaining an approved qualification like SPI that teaches and assesses everything related to these occupational standards.

It is the mapping of standards between fitness registers in different countries, which results in the formal reciprocal agreements that mean fitness instructors can move around the world and maintain their registration in the new country.

What is European Standards by EuropeActive?

EuropeActive is the European Association that provides the unique voice for the fitness, physical activity, and wellbeing sector at the EU level in Brussels, with the aim to get “More People, More Active, More Often”.

For more than 10 years EuropeActive has been working on European standards that help define the qualifications needed by fitness trainers.

Through the work of their independent Standards Council over 200 experts have contributed to standards that build and improve the qualifications for exercise professionals, allowing users to enjoy safe and effective exercise, all across Europe. Benefits of the Standards and accreditations include: bench marks for quality, enhanced employer engagement, gateway to the EREPS, improved international mobility of graduates, continued improvement, advice and development.

What is REPs UAE?

Launched in 2013, REPs is an independent, public register which recognizes the qualifications and expertise of fitness professionals in the UAE. REPs provides a system of regulation for instructors and trainers to ensure that they meet the health and fitness industry’s agreed UAE Fitness Occupational Standards.

REPs UAE serves to protect people who take part in exercise and physical activity and provides assurance and confidence to the public and employers that all professionals on the Register are appropriately qualified and have the knowledge, competence and skills to perform their role effectively.

The register was initiated and established by Dubai Sports Council and is part of a global network of fitness registers now operating around the world. REPs UAE is a member of ICREPs the global confederation for fitness registers.

SPI certifications are fully accredited by REPs UAE for the Category A Personal Trainer. For a student to become a Certified Personal Trainer he/she would be required to accomplish the SPI qualifications of “Training for Health & Fitness” alongside “Advanced Weight Training Techniques”.

SPI will also provide attendees REPs UAE CPDs (Continuing Professional Development) that are needed in the Emirates for trainers to renew their REPs registration.

What is EREPs

Launched in 2007, the European Register of Exercise Professionals (EREPS) is an independent register for instructors, trainers and teachers working in the European health, fitness and physical activity sector.
EREPS recognizes the qualifications and skills of exercise professionals, and is an important assurance for the public and employers that their instructor or employee holds the appropriate qualifications to perform their role safely and effectively.

EREPS is part of EuropeActive, the (leading) none profit organization representing the whole of the European health and fitness sector in Brussels
Registration on EREPS gives an assurance that exercise professionals are qualified to do their job. This gives consumers, employers and partners in the medical and health professions the necessary level of confidence in their professionalism.

SPI certifications are fully accredited by EREPS for the Fitness Instructor (EQF Level 3), Personal Trainer (EQF Level 4) and Pilates Instructor (EQF Level 4). For a student to become a Certified Personal Trainer he/she would be required to accomplish the SPI qualifications of “Training for Health & Fitness” alongside “Advanced Weight Training Techniques”.

What is CEC or CPD?

It is important for exercise professionals to keep their skills and knowledge up to date. Continuing Education Credits – CEC – or Continuing Professional Development – CPD – is about exercise professionals doing extra courses, attending workshops or conferences or taking part in other activities that increase their skills base.

REPs members are expected to do approximately 20 hours of CPD activities over a two year period and to log their CPD “points” where in most cases one point is equal to one hour of learning.

SPI will provide to attendees ACSM Approved Continuing Education Credits (CECs) so that they may document the number of CECs earned from each course or Workshop. Proof of continuing education is required to renew any International Fitness Certification.

SPI will also provide attendees REPs UAE CPDs (Continuing Professional Development) that are needed in the Emirates for trainers to renew their REPs registration.
